News sources reported on the 11 August 2015 that United Kingdom government efforts to place restrictions on immigrants from other EU countries claiming in-work benefit for four years would need to apply to Britons too. Otherwise, this would break EU law, unless it was a reform agreed at the EU level by treaty change.

Britons aged 18 to 22 claiming benefits such as tax credits and child benefit would also be caught by the new rules.
