Conference: Keep ahead with European information. Monday 16-Tuesday 17 November 1998, Maastricht, The Netherlands:
The European Information Association (EIA) and the European Institute of Public Administration (EIPA) are collaborating to organise a conference for experienced European information professionals called 'Keep ahead with European information'. The conference will take place at EIPA's excellent conference facilities in the attractive city of Maastricht in The Netherlands on 16-17 November 1998. The aim of the conference is to discuss new and important issues, products and services of interest to those who work with European information. It is hoped that the conference will bring together officials working in the EU and other European organisations with information professionals working in EU information relays, other related organisations, and anyone else interested in the issues under discussion.

Topics to be discussed include: current challenges facing the EU's information and communication policies; the future development of EUROPA, and tools and tricks to retrieve reliable European information from the Internet; the information policies of DG XI (Environment) and DG XVI (Regional Policy) of the European Commission; SYSTRAN, the EU's electronic translation project; what information professionals need to understand about the concept of comitology; developments at EUR-OP; evaluation of the EU's information relays; and an information strategy for the applicant countries of Eastern and Central Europe.

The conference fee is € 550.
