Bankers acting for Mittal Steel are considering increasing the company's hostile bid for Arcelor by more than €3bn. In the event on 19 May 2006 Mittal Steel sharply raised its offer for French rival Arcelor, valuing the firm at €25.8bn ($33bn; £17.5bn), 34% more than its former bid.
