Moldova between EU integration and Eurasian Union rapprochement

Moldova's President visited Russia on 17 January 2017, in his first foreign trip after taking office.

Following a meeting with the Russian President, he showed signs of support to a potential cancellation of the Association Agreement binding Moldova and the European Union (EU) in favour of closer cooperation with Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union (EEU).

The Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU fully entered into force in July 2016.
