A proposal made in 2017 to change to a mixed electoral system in Moldova would entrench corruption and harm the young democracy the author argues. EU and other Western governments should use their economic clout to stop it.

A delegation of the Venice Commission and OSCE/ODIHR visited the Republic of Moldova in May 2017 in view of the preparation of a joint opinion on the revision of the electoral legislation concerning the electoral system for the election of Parliament.
