The European Commission published on 12 July 2018 the 'Annual Report on monitoring the application of EU Law', which sets out how the Commission monitored and enforced EU law in 2017.
In 2017, the Commission launched 716 infringement cases. By the end of the year, 1,559 procedures remained open. The number of new late-transposition infringement cases decreased sharply in 2017 compared to the previous year.
These annual reports have been published since 1984, following a request by the European Parliament which also adopts a resolution on each of these reports.
