On 29 November 2009, Switzerland will hold a referendum on a proposed Constitutional amendment banning the construction of minarets in the country. Amnesty International believes that such a prohibition would breach Switzerland’s obligations under international human rights law. Economic interests in Switzerland are also worried about the consequences.
