The European Commission is to tackle public concern that prices could rise with the conversion from national currencies to the euro in January 2002. Pedro Solbes, the European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs, tells Eurogroup finance ministers in Luxembourg, 4.6.01 that a strong political message and technical preparation are needed to allay growing public fear that retailers will unfairly exploit the euro changeover. |
