Myanmar/Burma – Council conclusions (22 February 2021)

Summary:

Set of conclusions adopted by the Council of the European Union at a meeting on 22 February 2021 concerning the latest developments in Myanmar.

Further information:

The Council condemns the military coup carried out in the country on 1 February 2021. The conclusions call for a de-escalation of the crisis through an immediate end to the state of emergency, the restoration of the legitimate civilian government and the opening of the newly elected parliament. They urge all those detained or arrested in connection with the coup to be released by the military authorities, and call on all sides to refrain from violence.
