Nearly two years later, anti-corruption promises have yet to become a reality

El País reported in November 2014 that none of the anti-corruption laws that Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy promised in February 2013 in his first State of the Nation Address had come into force.

However, on the 27 November 2014 Mr Rajoy addressed Congress to talk about corruption in a debate and uphold the honesty of the majority of Spain’s politicians.

The mainstream parties in Spain have admitted that growing citizen anger at corruption is behind the meteoric rise of Podemos.
