On the 19 September 2016, the European Commission announced a new assistance package to Azerbaijan to support economic diversification through targeted assistance in the areas of financial, economic and judicial governance in the country. The funding comes through the European Neighbourhood Instrument (ENI) and is given to the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) countries.
