New EU members face tough euro test

The European Union's ten newest members will have to make more of an effort to get their economies into shape if they plan to join Europe's single currency this decade. So says the European Central Bank (ECB) in the Convergence Report 2004 issued 20 October 2004. DG Economic and Financial Affairs of the European Commission also published a separate Convergence Report 2004 at the same time.
