The leaders of three Greek political parties committed to keeping the country in the euro and pushing ahead with its €174bn bailout agreed on the 20 June 2012 to form a coalition government.

Antonis Samaras, whose centre-right New Democracy party narrowly claimed first place in the election of 17 June 2012, was sworn in as prime minister.

Vassilios Rapanos, a career public servant, was a surprise choice as Finance Minister.
