A Mideast peace conference was due to be held in the last week of November 2007 in Annapolis, Maryland. United States Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was expected to host the meeting, and both Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert were expected to attend the meeting. The goal of the conference was to produce a substantive document on resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, along the lines of the road map for peace.

This article is a commenttary feature previewing the conference from a European perspective.
