Abstract:

In March 2013, Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto of the Jubilee Alliance were elected Kenya’s President and Deputy President respectively. This victory was achieved against significant odds – both men were facing separate charges of crimes against humanity at the International Criminal Court, or ICC, for their alleged role in organising postelection violence in 2007-2008 against each other’s support bases and communities.
