Russia agreed in January 2014 to lend Hungary up to 10bn euros in a nuclear cooperation agreement finalised during a visit to Russia by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. Subsequently, the European Commission told the Hungarian government it had no objections to the Hungarian-Russian agreement on upgrading the Paks nuclear plant. However, according to EurActiv on 13 March 2015, EU sources stated the European Commission had in fact objected these plans. |
