Number of migrants arriving in Italy up 12% in July

Frontex issued on the 12 August 2016 the data for the number of detections of illegal border-crossing at the external borders of the European Union in July 2016.

While the number of migrants in the Eastern Mediterranean, especially the Greek eastern islands in the Aegean, remained well below the figures from earlier in 2016 and 2015 due to the implementation of the EU-Turkey migrant deal, the number of migrants arriving in Italy in July 2016 increased to almost 25,300, up 12% when compared to the same month of 2015.
