Oettinger playing ‘catch-up’ on EU digital infrastructure

During a visit to Berlin on 14 January 2015, Digital Commissioner Günther Oettinger called for increased investment in Europe’s digital infrastructure, explaining that the economy alone would not be able to close the significant investment gap.

Mr Oettinger called for rapid expansion of quick, comprehensive internet access, following a meeting with representative of Network Alliance Digital Germany. The German commissioner also spoke about net neutrality and also commented on the EU’s planned General Data Protection Regulation while speaking in the Bundestag's Committee on Legal Affairs and Consumer Protection.
