Article reported that Turkish prosecutors launched an investigation into the country’s main opposition leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu on the 9 January 2012 and called for parliament to lift his legal immunity, in the latest in a series of probes of prominent figures.

The investigation of Mr Kilicdaroglu follows the imprisonment pending trial in the previous week of Ilker Basbug, Turkey’s former chief of staff, and the appearance in court of Ahmet Sik and Nedim Sener, two journalists accused of being part of an alleged conspiracy against the state they had previously denounced.
