Report of the annual economic policy speech by Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou at the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF), 11 September 2010. He talked about the continuing challenges facing Greece as it sought to deal with its debt crisis bound by the conditions of a €110bn EU/IMF bailout deal to rescue Greece from bankruptcy.

Greek unions staged protests in the city against the government's austerity programme at the same time.

Mr Papandreou appealed to citizens to work together to help the country recover from its economic decline.
