Book abstract:

This third edition combines the expertise of personal injury lawyers in all the EU Member States and other western European jurisdictions to produce a 'unique and invaluable work' for any personal injury practitioner faced with an international injuries claim. The comparisons are validated by relationship of the awards to the difference in general earnings levels in the different countries and takes into account the introduction of the Euro into all but three of the Member States.

The work covers twenty jurisdictions, including a separate section on Scotland. Comprehensive graphs, tables, schedules and commentary on each country's system are used to examine in detail the methods of calculation and the compensation levels that two types of hypothetical victim might expect. The large discrepancies revealed indicate the differing weight given to a common set of factors in each country and will assist lawyers in offering the best advice to clients on where to sue.

The work will interest practitioners and policy makers engaged in the fields of personal injury law.
