As part of the United Kingdom's Government's campaign for the UK to remain in the European Union Prime Minister David Cameron said in a statement issued on the 14 May 2016 that the loss of European Investment Bank funding would 'put the brakes'on crucial UK infrastructure projects.

An exit from the EU would terminate Britain’s membership of the European Investment Bank (EIB), an organisation which had invested more than £16bn in UK projects over the past 3 years.
