Article reported that Poland was unhappy that in the draft text of a EU fiscal compact which would allow non-euro countries to attend eurozone summits only by invitation and only 'when appropriate'. Poland argued that, as a country treaty-bound to join the single currency in the future, such exclusion for Poland was unwarranted.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that Poland would not sign the latest anti-crisis pact if his government did not have full rights to attend eurozone meetings.

Finalising the text of the fiscal compact was due to take place at the European Council, Brussels, 30 January 2012.
