Within Poland in 2016 there has been a radicalisation of the Polish public debate in the context of the of the European refugee crisis, when the subject of national identity was used as a pretext in the political and rhetorical battle.

The refugee issue became a catalyst for nationalist egoism and a desperate search for identity in Poland - but in other European countries, Eastern as well as Western.
