After two days on tenterhooks and a nationwide manhunt a Syrian man suspected of planning a major bomb attack arrested in Leipzig, Germany on the 9 October 2016 after escaping surveillance the previous day. Three other Syrians who had taken the man in recognised him as a wanted suspect, tied him up and alerted the police. The police had discovered explosive material in the arrsted man's apartment in Chemnitz. Hans-Georg Maassen, the head of domestic intelligence in Germany said that the man was plotting to bomb a Berlin airport in the name of Isis / Islamic State. |
