Polish Commissioner to play small role in big money plans

Preparatory work on the multi-annual financial framework for the period after 2013 will be undertaken by a committee of Commissioners under European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and not the Budget Commissioner Janusz Lewandowski, who comes from Poland. The Polish press suggested this was a demotion but EU officials argued it was a standard procedure for major multi-departmental issues.
