Poll adds to pressure on Zapatero

Spain’s embattled socialist government suffered a further blow to its prospects on 30 May 2010 when an opinion poll showed that most Spaniards wanted early elections and that the conservative opposition would win a clear majority in such a contest.

José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, the prime minister, was already facing fierce criticism from both left and right in Spain for his handling of the financial and economic crisis.
