Reports of the local and municipal elections held in Portugal on the 1 October 2017.

The Socialist Party (PS) of Prime Minister António Costa performed well in the local elections and secured 38% of the vote nationwide, which compared with 32.3% in the 2015 general election.

The main opposition grouping, the centre-right Social Democratic Party (PSD), performed badly, as did the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP).
