Preliminary Annual Management Plan, Budget and Establishment Plan 2015

EFSA predicts that incoming work will remain steady, with approximately 500 mandates received in 2015. Overall, the increase of complexity (regarding scope of analysis, methods and evidence used) implies that EFSA’s workload will continue to be high.

The boundaries of EFSA’s work will continue to be challenged with a growing demand for scientific advice in areas such as environmental risk assessment, post-market monitoring, risk/benefit and efficacy assessment.

Moreover, in light of the challenges posed by an increasingly globalised trade in foodstaffs and ingredients, EFSA must remain positioned to respond rapidly to urgent food safety-related incidents, the majority of which are likely to be transnational in nature.

In parallel, societal demands for more openness and transparency will continue to grow and EFSA’s initiatives on a diverse range of associated issues such as data access, meaningful communication, stakeholders engagement and public consultation will require appropriate resources.

Against this background, in 2015 EFSA’s establishment plan will be further reduced by 2%, while it is anticipated that its budget will remain relatively stable. EFSA is therefore committed to increasing efficiency and optimising workflows to ensure the long-term sustainability of the organisation.

Among others, the Preliminary Annual Management Plan, Budget and Establishment Plan 2015 highlights: the issuing of approximately 450 scientific outputs with a growing demand for scientific advice in areas such as environmental risk assessment, post-market monitoring, risk/benefit and efficacy assessments; the renewal of the Scientific Committee and eight Scientific Panels; the implementation of the new transparency policy; the development of an EU risk assessment agenda and the strengthening of the cooperation with MSs and international organisations; the launch of the new EFSA’s website; and the reorganisation of EFSA’s journal.
