Date: 26/06/1997 French President Jacques Chirac displayed some diplomatic solidarity with Kohl by shunning his bike too, but there was not much Franco-German diplomacy at the talks later when Chirac was pushing his pet idea of a Mr CFSP. In the presence of Council of Ministers Secretary-General Jürgen Trumpf, Chirac remarked: “We need a real political personality, not someone who just files documents.” German-born Trumpf said nothing, aware that the new position will be held by whoever succeeds him. |
