More than 150 participants from social partner organisations from the 25 EU Member States (as well as Romania and Bulgaria) were expected to attend at the Social Dialogue Summit in Brussels, 29 September 2005, marking 20 years of European Social Dialogue. Bipartite European social dialogue, which has been a key tool in EU social policy, was started by the so-called 'Val-Duchesse process' in 1985. It was initiated and launched by former European Commission President, Jacques Delors. |
