Press Release: All sides back government bid to take radical steps to protect environment from hazardous chemicals

Responses to a consultation by the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) which took place from March to June 2004, showed broad support for the Government's backing of the principles of REACH, the proposed system for the Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals. The UK Government used the results of the consultation to press for simplification and improvement of the EC approach.
