Press Release: Anna Diamantopoulou wants concrete results from European Year of People with Disabilities 2003

The Employment and Social Affairs Council approved on 3 December 2001 the European Commission's proposal to make 2003 the European Year of People with Disabilities. A year-long campaign, for which the Commission has proposed a budget of 12 million euros, will seek support from political and business leaders and personalities from the world of entertainment and sport. As many as 10.000 events to promote the year are expected to be organised at European, national, regional and local levels. The Commission is also supporting, for the ninth successive year, the European Day of Disabled People on 3 December 2001
