The European Commission was informed by the German authorities on 25 August 2007 of an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza on a duck farm in Bavaria, in a region where infected wild birds were detected in July and early August. Upon suspicion of the virus, the German authorities immediately applied the necessary control measures laid down under EU legislation, and the Commission will adopt a Decision on 27 August to confirm the risk areas set up around the outbreak. |
