The European Commission on 9 March 2006 adopted a Communication on ways to improve the economic situation in the fishing industry. In thie paper the Commission analysed the causes of the current economic difficulties faced by a number of European fishing fleets, made worse by the recent rise in fuel prices, and outlined possible measures to address this situation.
