Press Release: Commission adopts contributions to Lahti informal Summit on innovation and energy policy

The Commission adopted on 12 October 2006 two separate contributions to the Lahti informal Summit on innovation and energy policy. These two short papers, prepared under the authority of President Barroso, respond to a request from the Finnish Presidency for contributions to assist in the framing of the debate in Lahti. President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso said, “Innovation and energy security are European challenges which require European solutions. The informal Summit in Lahti will define the direction and next steps in the development of European innovation policy and the Commission’s proposals for the external aspects of an energy policy for Europe. Both papers underline the strengthened role that Europe can play when it has a set of common objectives and speaks with a single voice.”
