On 31.1.01, the Commission adopted the Second Report on economic and social cohesion, as required by Article 159 of the EC Treaty. However, as well as assessing cohesion policy proper, the Report also sets out initial ideas and options for future cohesion policy in an enlarged Union. The Report will help situate the regional dimension more clearly within the overall enlargement process and will provide a basis for wide-ranging discussion among all concerned about the future cohesion of Europe.
