Press Release: Commission assesses Poland’s convergence programme

Having examined its updated convergence programme for 2005/2006, the European Commission found on 1 March 2006 that Poland, which was subject to the excessive deficit procedure, did not present a budgetary strategy that would enable it to correct its excessive deficit in 2007 as required by the Council. The European Commission therefore called on Poland to strengthen the budgetary adjustment in 2006, improve the long-term sustainability of public finances and strengthen the expenditure controls.
