The European Commission has authorised the planned acquisition of sole control of Spain's utility company Hidroeléctrica del Cantábrico (Hidrocantábrico) by Portuguese electricity company EDP-Electricidade de Portugal S.A. (EDP). Hidrocantábrico is presently controlled by EDP together with EnBW, a subsidiary of EDF, and CajAstur. The operation does not give rise to any competition concerns given that it is a change from joint to sole control and EDP/Hidrocantábrico face competition from other big players in Spain, 9 September 2004. |
