Press Release: Commission authorises for one year ‘broadband’ regulation in France as step towards more competition

The European Commission on 27 July 2005 authorised a regulatory measure, proposed by the French national regulatory authority for electronic communications, ARCEP. According to this measure France Télécom would be required to provide, for a transitional period, market players with wholesale nationwide high-speed access to France's telecoms network. The Commission approved the regulatory measures of ARCEP in a 'Letter with Comments' under Article 7 of the EU Framework Directive on Electronic Communications.
