Press Release: Commission co-organises conference on achieving sustainable fisheries in the Mediterranean

The European Commission co-organised with the Italian Presidency of the European Union a conference on how to secure sustainable fisheries in the Mediterranean in Venice on 25-26 November 2003. Representatives of all Mediterranean coastal states gathered with a view to agreeing on the necessary action to ensure the sustainability of fisheries in this region.
The aim of the conference was to agree on the establishment of a multilateral fisheries management system particularly for straddling highly migratory and other shared fish stocks.
