The European Commission hosted a stakeholder conference on life sciences and biotechnology on 27-28 September 2001, to encourage a broad and constructive public debate on biotechnology in Europe. The conference was a contribution to the public consultation launched on 4 September 2001 and was intended to help the Commission prepare a policy initiative in this field by the end of 2001. The focus was distinctly European, but set in the appropriate global context. |
