The European Commission on 14 June 2005 hosted a public hearing on economic migration, to be opened jointly by Vice-President Frattini and Commissioner Spidla. The hearing came as a direct follow-up to the Green Paper on an EU approach to managing economic migration which the Commission presented in January 2005. The hearing was based on a bottom-up rather than top down approach, bringing together the main stakeholders in this debate, notably trade unions, employers organisations, governments, European Parliament and European Economic and Social Committee, non-governmental organisations, and interested third-countries. |
