The European Initiative for Growth considered by the European Council in Thessaloniki in June 2003 has slowly but steadily climbed to the top of the political agenda across Member States. Since its initial outline, the Commission has made quick progress on a series of policy and legislative proposals in the fields of Trans European Networks (TENs) and European Research, Development and Innovation. The Commission is now proposing a detailed road map for action and a series of recommendations to the October 2003 European Council. The European Initiative for Growth aims to mobilise investment in two key areas of the Lisbon agenda: networks and knowledge. |
