Press Release: Commission strengthens its support to confront HIV/AIDS, Malaria and Tuberculosis outside the EU

The European Commission on 27 April 2005 adopted a Programme for Action to strengthen Europe's support to confront HIV/AIDS, Malaria and Tuberculosis outside the EU's borders. It proposed a menu of concrete actions to address the dramatic situation, with over 6 million people dying every year. The initiative followed the promise made by the European Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid, Louis Michel, to do better, do more and quicker in delivering on the Millennium Development Goals (MDG).
