Press Release: Commissioner Ferrero-Waldner urges wide participation in Iraqi elections

Preview of the Parliamentary elections in Iraq, 15 December 2005. The European Commission considered this to be a major step in a political transition that had begun with Iraq’s first pluralist elections in January 2005, and which had included the drafting of a new Constitution, and the approval of that Constitution by referendum in the autumn of 2005.
