Preview of a visit of Markos Kyprianou, Commissioner for Health and Consumer Protection, to the United States of America, 17-21 April. Amongst the items to be discussed with his US counterparts were obesity, trans-Atlantic co-operation on tackling pandemics and co-operation with the new European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC). Another topic to be addressed by the Commissioner were GMOs, in light of the recent announcement that the unauthorised GMO maize Bt10 had been inadvertently released onto the US market and subsequently exported to the EU. |
