Press Release: Commissioner Piebalgs and Ukrainian Energy Minister Boiko assess progress in the implementation of EU-Ukraine MoU

Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs met the Energy and Fuel Minister of Ukraine, Yuriy Boiko in Brussels on 18 October 2006 to assess the progress in the energy cooperation between EU and Ukraine on the basis of the Memorandum of Understanding on energy cooperation. Minister Boiko and Commissioner Piebalgs have also signed, jointly with Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy, Benita Ferrero-Waldner, the first Progress Report on its implementation. "Ukraine's commitment to bringing its energy market closer to EU standards is an important contribution to enhancing the security of energy supplies of Europe" said Commissioner Piebalgs.
