Press Release: Commissioner Piebalgs meets the new IEA Director Tanaka and promotes cooperation on energy efficiency

Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs welcomed on 24 September 2007 the new Executive Director of the IEA, Nobuo Tanaka, who took office on 1 September, to discuss issues of common interest. 'The EC and IEA cooperation covers an extremely wide range of issues. I would like to emphasize the area of energy efficiency where the Commission has come forward with a new international initiative to establish a platform on energy efficiency. In this framework we see an important potential for further cooperation with the IEA' said Commissioner Piebalgs after the meeting.
