The European Commission reappointed Professor Damien Neven as the Chief Competition Economist for a further period of three years. In the three years since he was first appointed Professor Neven has contributed to the work of the European Commission in the fields of antitrust, mergers and state aid control. The Commission decided exceptionally to reappoint Professor Neven for a further period of three years to ensure continuity in projects that last beyond a period of three years, and to avoid continuity problems, which may be particularly relevant in the current times of financial and economic crisis, where the mandate of the Chief Economist and the Commission end around the same time |
